Notice on the adjustments of testing requirements for all China-bound passengers (Updated May 18, 2022)

In order to reduce cross-border transmission of Covid-19, the Chinese Embassy inMalawi has updated the application procedures of healthcode. Passengers who travel on and after May 18, 2022 are kindly required to read and follow instructions below.

1.Testingrequirements

All China-bound passengers must take 2 nucleic acid tests atNational Microbiology Reference Laboratory and Kamuzu Central Hospitalrespectivelywithin 48 hours before boarding to the transit country and then take an antigen test at one of the above-mentioned facilities in Lilongwe within 12 hours before boarding. Upon receiving the reports, passengers can apply for health code athttps://hrhk.cs.mfa.gov.cn/H5/.

(1)On the day before boarding, passengers should upload 2 negative nucleic acidtest reports, passport, Chinese visa or resident permit, itinerary, recent entry recordsinto Malawi(if any), vaccination certificate(if any) and Letter of Commitment on COVID-19 Vaccination.After examining and verifying, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi will issue a red health code with the remarks “Pre-application has been approved, please upload antigen test report before boarding ”.

(2)On the departure day, passengers should upload the negative antigen test report before boarding. After examining and verifying, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi will issue a green health code. Passengers who have obtained the green health code will then be eligible to board.

The Chinese Embassy in Malawi only recognizes the nucleic acid test reports with TT codeand the antigen test reports issued by the National Microbiology Reference Laboratory and Kamuzu Central Hospital. Any false declaration, falsification of test results or alteration of test reports will result in rejection of health code application and being declined of boarding or be held liable for the offense.


2.About transit

There is no direct flight from Malawi to China, and all China-bound passengers are only allowed to transfer once. The Chinese Embassy in Malawi does not accept application from multi-countries transit passengers or passengers who do not live in Malawi. Passengers should apply for health code from the Chinese Embassies/Consulates in BOTH Malawi and transit country. The green health code issued by the Chinese Embassy in Malawi is only for flight to transit country. Passengers are advised to check the testing requirements of the Chinese Embassies/Consulates in transit country.

3.Self-quarantine requirements

Passengers are required to stay in Malawi for at least 28 days before applying for health code and take a self-quarantine for at least 10 days before boarding. If you show suspected symptoms, please postpone or cancel the trip. Passengers are advised to take effective measures of personal protection during the trip.

4.Passengers with infection history

(1) If you were diagnosed with COVID-19 or tested positive for nucleic acid or antibody (not due to vaccination), you are considered as having an infection history.

(2) You can apply for a health code if you meet the following requirements:

- Take two nucleic acid tests with a sampling interval of over 24 hours at the designated facilities, and both tests return negative results.

- Send the test reports to consulatemlw@gmail.com for approval. The email should be sent within 3 days after the first sample collection.

- Take a self-quarantine for at least 14 days and record your daily health conditions. After completing the above procedures, follow this notice to perform corresponding tests before boarding.

5.Close contacts/showing suspected symptoms

(1) Passengers who have had unprotected contact with confirmed, suspected or asymptomatic casesare considered as close contacts.

(2) Close contacts or passengers showing suspected symptoms are expected to self-quarantine for at least 14 days. Please monitor your health conditions and take nucleic acid tests on the 1st, 4th, and 7th day of self-quarantine. After completing the above procedures and the test result is negative, follow this notice to perform corresponding tests before boarding.

6. Vaccinated passengers

Passengers who have been vaccinated can apply for the health code at least 14 days after being fully vaccinated.Vaccinated passengers should upload the Vaccination Certificate together with the Letter of Commitment on COVID-19 Vaccination (see below)for the health code application.
