Remarks by H.E. Ambassador Shi-Ting Wang at the Handover Ceremony of Boreholes
2016/05/14

(14 May 2016, Balaka)

Your Excellency, Madam Dr. Gertrude Mutharika, First Lady of the Republic of Malawi,

Dear Colleagues from Malawian Government and Beautify Malawi Trust,

Dear chiefs and traditional leaders present here,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon. I am very glad to be here with all of you. Since I arrived in Malawi a few weeks ago, it is the first time for me to travel out of Lilongwe. Wherever we went, Malawian friends greeted us with beautiful smiles. Upon our arrival at this village, so many villagers gather here to welcome us. Malawi deserves to be called warm heart of Africa.

For me, I come here today with two impotrant missions. First is to officially handover two boreholes donated by Chinese Embassy in Malawi, second is to donate some foods, which including 400 hundred portions of Sugar, 400 portions of salt, 400 portions of cooking oil, and 400 portions of cans to you.

  Ladies and gentlemen,

Water is the source of life. No one can live without water. Most of you have to walk miles away to collect water with hard labor. Therefore, we decided to help you when Her Excellency the First Lady told me villagers in Balaka don’t have easy access to clean water. So let’s clap our hands for Her Excellency first.

In fact, China has donated more than 600 boreholes across the country in the past few years. Dream for an improved livelihood has come true in many Malawian families. And today, I am proud to say your dream has also come true.

Although these two boreholes are free gifts from Chinese People, I sincerely hope that you can take care of them, protect them as you protect your own life and let them benefit as many people as possible.

  Ladies and gentlemen,

When I arrived here, I’m deeply impressed by your hospitality, as well as the difficulties and Challenges you are facing to develop. As a true friend of Malawi, China will continue to offer assistance within our capacity to help you develop economy and improve living standard. Let’s join hands to creat a better future for all of you , and for Malawi.

  Long Live China-Malawi Friendship!
